The Poulsens ‘Rocket to Rehab’
Overall this is a blah demo. The Poulsens could do better but I think it’s more of an ‘instant gratification” issue where the band thinks they are a far better band then they actually are. The guitars are sloppy and not quite sure of themselves. The range of the vocals is still trying to be found. The best I could say is ‘Rocket to Rehab’ is clumsy & unorganized. If the band took a little more time, had more money for studio & proper mastering, ‘Rocket To Rehab’ could have been as good as the Bricktops ‘Stay Home’. But I see the Poulsens getting lost in the Pop Punk shuffle of jokers & wildcards. Hailing from Canada the Poulsens know the Riptides own the Canadian Punk Sound but even they (the riptides) understand that it takes more than a handful of rehashed Ramones/Queers riffs to take on the world. These days, to make an impact it needs to be fresh and very well done, well at least fresh. The Poulsens, as it stands are neither. But they have real potential to be great, if they want to be. In the end it doesn’t really matter, this is Pop Punk after all.
Ahoy!
