Second To None – “Wreck Of Rock –n- Roll” – The album as a whole is fairly homogenous, which is one of its few shortcomings, but virtually every song is solid, so it’s not that the music is bad by any means, it’s just a little too similar at times. If you’re looking for an energetic, hard rock album full of hooks and a few memorable melodies, and an almost hard grunge sound with a few similarities to Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, or Neil Young, then Wreck of Rock –n-Roll is what you’ve been waiting for. Within the first few seconds, the impression is given that this is going to be an fun album. However, a crucial question lingers – will the fun last? The answer is an emphatic NO. This album is like a night out drinking with the boys. It’s fun of energy, bravado & heavy drinking, but when leaving you with very little to remember the next day. After you wake up the next day you can barely remember what the night was about not because of the drinking, but the lack of substance. Really it’s all something you’ve heard many times before at any local bar with a local hard rock band playing the opening act for the band you really came to see. Second To None is probably a band that is better when seen live in a dark smoky bar after you’ve thrown down a few.
